Introduction

Hanoi is one of the great inspirations and has many influences to the most of artist generations who grew up in Hanoi. Mentioning to the paintings of Hanoi, we can not forget to mention Dang Van Quynh – a young artist looking for beautiful features in each corner of Hanoi to record the soul of street by paintings. Dang Van Quynh’s drawings are very subtle and simple, and he uses mainly sharp and small brush strokes. With a real dagger, he describes the scene such as: the old town houses with gray color depicting time, the stores, the little shops hidden in the street corners, furniture shops, tiny stools placed on the sidewalk, wire cover, electricity wires … The imagines of Hanoi streets are never so simple like that. Dang Van Quynh uses color-saving way to paint, he mainly uses gray to cover the scene, while the small details such as motorcycles, dresses, tables … are more colorful just to emphasize small points for the painting. This such color effect has helped his landscape paintings look like the real scene, the real painting of daily life.
