Image of Woman in Phuong Quoc Tri’s Painting
Upon winning the Best Actress category, Michelle Yeoh said: “And for all the boys and girls like me out there watching, my dear friends, this is a beacon of hope and possibility. It’s proof that dreams do come true. And ladies, don’t let anyone tell you that you’re done. Never give up.” This inspirational speech reminded me of the life of artist Phuong Quoc Tri.
Born in Phan Rang, Phuong Quoc Tri moved to Saigon and worked many jobs to make a living, but still harbored a love for painting. From a few paintings that accidentally appeared in galleries, Phuong Quoc Tri has diligently created and become one of the best-selling artists.

Phuong Quoc Tri is famous for his paintings depicting women’s faces. Not using too many colors in his works, he focuses on portraying each character’s personality through their eyes or a fleeting frown.
