Artworks of Nghiem Vu Bang are always reminiscent of sculptural sculptures of Tay Nguyen tomb or multi-island Aboriginal art lines – condensed, coherent, powerful and haunting. That obsession comes from both color and strokes technique, making spectators sometimes tremble because of the intense emotions from the artwork.
The work “Close friend” tells a story about a conversation between two people – whether friendship or are in any other unknown social relationship – but is full of sorrow and fatigue. The color contrast tells its own story of a heavy atmosphere in the picture, making it impossible for both the character and the viewer to escape from it. The emotions locked in Nghiem Vu Bang’s own work cannot escape, so they keep in the memories of each person, like a sad evening with infinite repetitions.
