Born in 1949 in Bac Ninh, Nguyen Thanh Chuong - widely known as artist Thanh Chuong - began his formal training at the Ha Noi Fine Art College in 1960. His career includes service in the military, work as an illustrator for Thong Nhat Journal, and many years of dedication to Van Nghe Weekly (The Weekly journal of Art and Literature - The Writers Association of Viet Nam). His artworks have been exhibited in both Vietnam and abroad, earning numerous accolades such as third prize at the 1973 Hanoi Art paintings Exhibition, an international graphic award in Czechoslovakia in 1974, and various prizes for illustration and graphics. Notably, in 2001, his work was chosen by the United Nations to appear on an international stamp.
Artist Thanh Chuong’s love for painting was kindled at the age of seven, when he won a gold medal at an international children’s art competition - earning him the moniker of “child prodigy.” However, his true legacy lies not in early fame, but in his ability to move beyond it, constantly seeking his own voice through self-reflection, transformation, and original artistic exploration.

The subjects in his paintings are always very familiar things in life, but in one way or another, Nguyen Thanh Chuong always breathes new life into it.
