Biography of Le Huu Ich
Le Huu Ich was born in 1968 in Thanh Hoa and passed away in 2019. His talent revealed itself early: at the age of twelve, he won a silver medal in a provincial painting competition for young artists. From 1985 to 1988, he studied at the Central College of Pedagogy in Art and Music, then continued his art education at the Hanoi University of Fine Arts from 1994 to 1999.
Before fully committing to painting, Le Huu Ich honed his craft as a ceramic artist at Bat Trang Ceramic Company between 1991 and 1993. From 1994 to 1999, he regularly exhibited in annual student exhibitions at Hanoi University of Fine Arts, where he earned first prize in a student art competition in 1998.
Throughout his creative journey, artist Le Huu Ich participated in numerous exhibitions both in Vietnam and abroad, in cities such as Hanoi, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Bangkok. His paintings also belong to private and organizational collections in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, France, Australia, the UK, and the US. Though soft-spoken, Le Huu Ich carved his own distinctive path in Vietnamese art, steadfastly seeking a personal artistic voice.

Artist Le Huu Ich once shared: “True art in general and painting in particular always consider Beauty as the end, the destination of creativity. Therefore, naturally, women – the Beautiful Women – are an attractive and endless subject of art. A large part of my art world is devoted to women. I have drawn hundreds of paintings of women, middle-aged, young, young women, young women… Each painting brings a different image of a woman, each image has its own beauty.”
The women in Le Huu Ich’s works are gentle but leave deep connections with Eastern values. Whether it’s lacquer or oil paint, he always chooses strong contrasting colors to highlight the main subject in the middle of a simple background. Despite his early success with the Philip Morris Asia-Pacific Art Award, Le Huu Ich sought quiet conversations with himself. Without making much noise, he let his own works speak for their story.
